Springfield Armory launched its Garrison 1911 in the last quarter of 2021, with an aim to provide a classically styled M1911 pistol built with modern materials and engineering. At launch, the new Garrison was chambered for the classic .45 ACP, but with the growing popularity of 9 mm Luger-chambered M1911s, Springfield supplemented its lineup with a 9 mm model of the Garrison in 2022.
Like the original Garrison, the 9 mm-chambered variant is built on a forged frame and slide, as well as having a forged stainless-steel barrel. Styling-wise, the Garrison takes its cues from the classics, with serrations at the rear of the slide, checkered thinline grips, a generous beavertail grip safety complete with memory bump and, of course, a 5″ match-grade barrel, complete with a 1:16″ twist rate and a fully supported ramp.

Despite being inspired by the classics, you’ll find many modernized elements in the gun that help it keep up with its contemporaries. There’s a skeletonized trigger and hammer, which ensure faster lock times, as well as a well-contoured, extended thumb safety, though it’s on the left side of the frame only. A serrated, left-side magazine-release button is designed for confident activation, and the checkered mainspring housing ensures a solid grip. You’ll also find a generous set of low-profile, three-dot sights on the gun.
