The Type 38 rifle was a bolt-action rifle that supplemented the Type 99 Japanese standard infantry rifle during the Second World War. The design was adopted by the Imperial Japanese Army in 1905 (the 38th year of the Meiji period, hence “Type 38”) and served from then until the end of 1945. The Type 97 is based off the standard Type 38, but with a rifle scope with 2.5x magnification, introduced in 1937. The scope was offset to allow loading by stripper clip and bolt handle slightly bent down. Some 14,000 were produced. The replica from Tanaka is ultra realistic and plays an incredible homage to the original rifle fielded during its service period. The real wood has rich patterning and the steel blends nicely into the wood and you instantly feel like you are holding a piece of history in your hands. Operation is smooth and Tanaka has always boasted consistent FPS and realistic trigger feel and bolt action. This particular rifle features the off set optics mount but the topic is not included.
Internally the rifle is based off of the same tried and test systems featured in their other rifles such as the KAR 98k.
